East Preston Floral Club’s tribute to Shakespeare

ROUGH winds may have shaken the darling buds of May, but June’s blooms were at their best for East Preston Floral Club’s tribute to Shakespeare.

All the displays in the club’s popular festival exhibition of art and flowers were based on the Bard’s plays, including the superb set-piece on the stage of the Conservative Hall, a tribute to Romeo and Juliet, complete with that balcony.

And, as always, selected paintings from the 200 in the exhibition were matched with the flower arrangements, each enhancing the other.

This year’s theme was suggested by club member Pamela Parr, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Pamela also created four arrangements for the end of the art panels, representing The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Merchant of Venice, Othello and A Winter’s Tale.

Any profits from the exhibition will go to St Barnabas House hospice.
