THEY could hardly believe their eyes when hot and exhausted, the youngsters came in from the recreation field.
In the current heat conditions, people old and young are looking for ways to keep cool and beat the heat.
And the class of pre-school children appear to have found a rather novel way of keeping the heat at bay.
Children at Fernhurst Pre-School ended their summer term and celebrated with a very special treat – the biggest banana split the village has ever seen.
The three metres of ice cream refreshment was made by the Pre-School Committee.
They also kindly provided ice cream, raspberry sauce, candy sprinkles, Flakes and Smarties.
Local greengrocer Steve Jones, of Crossways Fruiterers, supplied the key ingredient: bananas.
It followed a morning of sports day activities for the two- to four-year-olds.
