MIDHURST’S Centre Stage Academy (CSA) is celebrating another success in the form of talented young actor Gus McQuillin.

The promising star has been through a rigorous audition process in London to secure the role of Hughie in the CBeebies production Grandpa in my Pocket.

Gus is a client of Stage A Management, the agency handling the academy’s talented pupils.

Counting Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Daniel Craig among his inspirations, Gus attends CSA in Midhurst every Saturday and his agent Maggie is delighted with his progress and raw talent.

Maggie said: “Gus is a most delightful little boy, very cute looking with curly fair hair, big blue eyes and a cheeky grin.

“He is full of beans and charm and has been called for a remarkable number of auditions. Casting directors love him – he is remarkably confident for his age, and a very likeable young man. Gus is absolutely determined to be a professional actor. He’s made a jolly good start so we are hoping for great things from him in the future.”

The show stars James Bolam as the protagonist, and won a Bafta award for Best Children’s Programme in 2010.

British actress Emilia Fox has also had a starring role in the show.

Gus received warm praise from the series’ production team at the BBC studios in Cardiff, where he spent two intense days earlier this month filming his contribution.

Proud parents Patrick and Melanie are keen to support Gus’s ambitions.

Melanie said: “Gus has wanted to become a professional actor for around four years.

“He saw a Johny Depp film one day and
said ‘Why can’t I do that?’.

“He is always fooling around and making an exhibition of himself! So he is a natural performer.”

Gus’s debut part will be shown on the CBeebie’s channel next year.
