Engineering students give talk on success

STUDENTS from Midhurst Rother College’s winning team at the Young Engineers’ School of the Year awards were invited to the Royal Academy of Engineering headquarters to celebrate this accolade.

Sam Hadnett, Bethany Procter, Margot Mason and Rory Williams gave an informative Powerpoint presentation about how the college delivers an impressive example of STEM learning.

The presentation was entitled ‘What it takes to win a STEM School of the Year Award’.

This included information about the college’s wide reaching STEM primary school programme, the Greenpower IET Formula 24 Car Project, and the Swamp Boat Collaborative Challenge.

The students also talked about their personal STEM interests, the benefits they have received through their involvement in all the associated activities, and how this impacts upon their career plans.

Unable to attend the event, William Keohane, another member of the team, made a virtual appearance presenting his A Level DT project via a prerecorded video.

Scott Atkinson, curriculum leader of art, design and technology at Midhurst Rother College and teacher coordinator, said: “The students were very proud to have been invited to such a prestigious event.

“Their participation rounded off what has been a very exciting year in STEM subjects at the College.

“The STEM team are excitedly looking forward to building on this success in the future.”
