A 2017 bid for planning permission for the canopy was turned down and Eastbourne council confirmed this week that the current building work at the premises in the High Street was unlawful.

A spokesperson said, “Our enforcement team is currently investigating. We have invited them to stop work whilst our investigations are ongoing.”
