Developer Redow said it was also investing in the wider area, including through improvements to local transport links, in particular the A27.

It will also make a contribution toward the maintenance of Chichester Harbour, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Mark Vanson, Sales Director at Redrow Southern Counties, said: “We are delighted to be launching our first ever community in Chichester, a vibrant city with heaps of history, sandy beaches and country charm.

“Its eclectic offering and enviable location will no doubt attract all types of buyers, from couples looking for their starter home, to growing families, to those wanting to ‘rightsize’ by the coast for a change of lifestyle.”

Prices at New Fields start from £369,950 for a three-bedroom home, and the Government backed Help to Buy scheme is available on select homes.

Redrow’s very own Help to Sell initiative is also available for those looking to move or down-size and can be used in conjunction with Help to Buy, a spokesman said – find out more here.

The developer has number of other plans for the West Sussex area.

These include proposals for 200 new homes for the second phase of the Westhampnett development, North East of Graylingwell Park, as well as up to 1,500 new homes for the former Ford Airfield.
