MUSIC EVENT IN CHURCH: Etchingham Music Festival are sponsoring an Evening of Folk Rock Music featuring the Logan Wilson Band and David Burns on Mandola. In Etchingham Church on Friday October 24, 7.30pm, the bar opens at 7pm. The event is held in aid of the new village hall, tickets are £10, available in the shop or on the door.

ETCHINGHAM SHOP & DELI: A reminder that as from Monday (October 6) the opening hours of the Etchingham Shop and Deli have changed. The opening hours are now Monday to Wednesday 8am to 6pm, Thursday and Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday 8.30am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 2pm.

PARISH MAGAZINE: The October/November issue of the Parish Magazine is now available in the village shops and the Church. CHURCH SERVICES: Sunday Services are at 10.30am until November 16 when they change to 11am for the winter months. October 5, No morning service, but you are welcome at Burwash for Evensong at 6pm; October 12, Rev. Jean Manning; October 19, Rev. Peter Clark; October 26, Rev. Jean manning; November 2, Rev. Dick Dengate; November 9, Remembrance Day Service with Rev. Iain Morrison 10.50am. A reminder the Church is open daily 11am t0 4pm.

SPEEDWATCH UPDATE: Since Etchingham Speedwatch started in January the group has operated over 180 roadside sessions, ranging in length from half an hour to one and a half hours, at different times of day and at several different approved locations in the village. Those sessions have resulted in over 1,500 vehicles reported for exceeding the 30mph speed limit by more than the prescribed margin, the registered keepers of about 1,000 of those will have received Police letters. We are trying to raise the funds to purchase our own device, that along with hopefully some more volunteer operators would give us greater flexibility and enable us to carry out sessions that better suit the volunteers and target the times with the worst speeding. We currently have six trained operators and could a lot more sessions if we had more volunteers. The group tries to operate sessions every week as much as possible. Volunteers have to attend a short instruction session at battle Police Station, for instruction on safety while operating at the roadside, training in the use of the equipment is then undertaken by the group co-ordinator. The volunteers are then able to be deployed on Community Speedwatch sessions. Operators are notified of when the equipment is booked, it is then up to them how many or how few sessions they take part in. MOBILE LIBRARY: The next visits of the Mobile Library will be October 9th and 23rd 3.40pm to 4.20pm. Since the closure of the village hall the library van parks on the forecourt of Bracon Place on the east side of the level crossing.

PERFORMERS WANTED: it is now nearer next Christmas than last, it is time to start thinking about the Christmas concert and play in the church. The event will fall on Saint Lucy’s Day, December 13, so the script will feature the Scandanavian celebration of Sankta Lucia, Saint Nicholas, along with a traditional Sussex Mummers Play. Previous participants will be invited to a planning meeting in September, some new people to join in will be most welcome.
