Evening classes for people will a stammer

A FREE evening class for adults with a stammer has been organised by speech and language therapists.

The course '“ the first of its kind locally '“ starts on 19 April and will be held weekly on Thursday evenings, 6pm-8pm, at Newhaven Polyclinic, Church Hill, Newhaven, until 7 June.

'If you're over 18, live in East Sussex and would like help to overcome a stammer, then this course could be for you,' says Duncan Brown, a speech and language therapist with East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust.

'Around one in 100 people have a stammer. It's not just a problem with speech. It can affect everyday life to the extent that it causes anxiety for stammers and listeners.'
