Eyes front for optician’s masterclass at Arundel school

Staff from Specsavers Rustington visited St Philip’s Catholic Primary School to lead the educational session on eyes.
Two classes in year one were visited by store director Rishi Patel and dispensing optician Amelia Whittle, who covered a wide range of topics.

Hide AdThe children learned how the eyes work, why protecting eyes from the sun was essential and why regular eye tests were so important, especially for young children who are still growing.
Mr Patel said: “We really enjoyed the school visit, getting out into the local community and reminding everyone how important eye examinations are.
“Through educating children on how amazing our eyes are early on in life, it helps to instil an ongoing concern for eye health in the coming years.
“Hopefully, the children will share their insights with their parents, who will be prompted to schedule in regular check-ups for the family to pick up on sight problems, and also other health issues that can be identified at an opticians, such as diabetes.”

Hide AdSpecsavers Rustington, in The Street, has also made a donation of 100 hi-visibility vests to the school.
The fluorescent vests will help to ensure the children remain visible and safe on school trips.
