Farm sets standard

Hoads Farm Finest Quality Eggs, at Broad Oak, has invested the money in a new poultry shed to maintain the outstanding welfare levels of its hens.

The shed, which came into operation this month, will encompass the very latest developments in poultry housing.

This includes a multi-tier structure which has been developed by careful observation of bird behaviour, and will allow the hens to express the same natural behaviour they would in the wild.

When the hens are not inside enjoying their new home, they will be able to access a range offering acres of stimulating environment, with specially planted trees and vegetation to encourage natural foraging.

The investment is just the latest example of the company’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of welfare possible for their birds. In 2013, Hoads Farm was awarded a Good Egg Award by Compassion in World Farming, in recognition of its continuing dedication to farm animal welfare.

Adrian Potter, Director at Hoads Farm, says: “Consumers’ demand for food from high welfare and trusted sources is increasing year on year and we have always prided ourselves on adhering to these principles in our farming.

“This investment ensures that we stay ahead of the game in terms of hen welfare and continue leading the way in free range egg production.”

Commenting on the earlier welfare award from Compassion In World Farming, Mr potter said: ““We remain committed to putting animal welfare at the forefront of our business.”

Established in 1978, Hoads Farm is a producer and packer of Lion quality free range eggs based in East Sussex. Eggs are available to buy in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s stores across the South-East.
