Felpham council is quality for serving its community

National recognition has been achieved by Felpham's parish councillors.

They have gained the status of running a Quality Council. Felpham is only the third council in the Arun district to be granted the sought-after award.

A panel of independent experts in local government decided the parish council fulfilled all the necessary requirements.

Paul English, Felpham Parish Council's chairman, said: "I feel great pride in the council gaining this award.

"The parish council and its members have been trying to attain this status for some time and it is a credit to past and present councillors in helping to improve standards.

"The parish were also very lucky to have a fully- certificated quality clerk to ensure those standards were now maintained and improved upon."

The award will be presented soon by the Earl of Lytton, the president of the National Association of Local Councils.

The quality council scheme was started to provide a benchmark of minimum standards for parish and town councils to enable them to better represent their communities.

A series of tests had to be passed by Felpham Parish Council to receive the award.

The criteria included showing the council spoke up for residents, had strong links with its community, worked in partnership with other agencies and was effectively managed.
