The concert has been rehearsed by festival conductor, Paul Spicer over several months and offers a chance for small classical choral societies to sing a major choral concert accompanied by a full symphony orchestra.

Mary Knight, MMS’ director of music said: “I am really proud of the way our members have worked so hard to learn this music. We are looking forward to the performance when we join the soloists and orchestra. This will be an exciting experience for our choir.”

Paul Spicer, festival director said: “Dvorak’s Stabat Mater has a monumental structure and is a major work of the Romantic period. It was conceived out of pure grief at the loss of his daughter Josefa. Dvorak little thought that by the time the work was completed he would have lost three children. The work comes from the very depths of Dvorak’s heart and it communicates very strongly both through the beauty of its language and lyricism. The combined choir, to which we are delighted to welcome the Midhurst Musical Society, has worked hard and shown commitment.”

The concert will be performed at The Petersfield Festival Hall March 25 at 7.30pm. Tickets are

available at Music Festival
