Showcasing the best new models from manufacturers such as Porsche, Audi, Lexus and Skoda, the show has established itself as the most important addition to the annual festival, and today’s event was no exception.

Not only were visitors given the opportunity to experience some of the vehicles first hand, they were also able to watch the cars complete the world-famous Goodwood hillclimb.

“We have never been to the motor show day before - but this year we won tickets to come. Where else can you see so many fantastic cars? It makes you want to go home and polish yours up.”

With models such the Audi RS6, one of the world’s fastest estate cars and the Alfa Romeo 4C making their debut on the forest rally stage, it was certainly a day visitors will remember.

It was also a big day for the Goodwood Action Sports (GAS) arena, where some of the biggest names in adrenaline-fuelled world of extreme sports returned to fight it out.

GAS brings together motocross, BMX dirst, high jump and flat land action as well as motorcycle and mountain bike trials and names such as Chris Doyle and Luc Ackermann, wowed the crowds with their tricks with many staying on to sign paraphernalia for fans.

Peugeot stood out as a crowd pleaser, with many gutsy members of the crowd trying out some body boarding complete with wet suits.

The display of wacky racers pleased families at the event, and the soapboxes were also on display ready for their circuit outings.

Mick Harris and his son Joel, from Ashstead in Surrey, are regulars at Festival of Speed.

“We normally come every year,” said Mick.

“It is a little bit quieter than the three main festival days, but it is great because the boys are really interested in seeing the cars.

“My son is very keen on cars - he teaches me!”

Many festival-goers enjoyed time soaking up the sun from deckchairs, while others enjoyed hospitality laid on by sponsors and companies.

A 20th anniversary exhibition of the Festival also attracted many meeting regulars, who looked back over the years with fondness.

“Its lovely to see the twenty years laid out like this,” said John Ross, from Tunbridge Wells.

“I’ve tried to come as many years as possible. This year looks like it will be a good one.”

Goodwood Aviation were offering helicopter flights and there was also an aviation exhibition.
