Field to Fork kits for local schoolchildren

GLYNE GAP special needs school received a boost to it's health education teaching materials by way of a special, 'Grow it, Cook it, Eat it' kit, courtesy of Bexhill Sainsbury's this week.

The free kit, which was personally delivered by Sainsbury's Deputy Manager, Kevin Davies and Suzanna Upton, PR Ambassador, includes all the equipment for a class of pupils to grow and cook their own vegetables.

The kits, supported by a book of the same title, providing information on food from it's journey from the 'field to the fork', are being delivered to selected schools as part of Sainsbury's Active Kids Get Cooking Scheme.

The scheme is designed to help schoolchildren understand where food comes from, how it is grown and to help develop their cooking skills.

On delivering the kit to Glyne Gap school, Kevin Davies said: "We are constantly looking for ways to make a positive difference to the local community. The donation of the 'Grow it, Cook it, Eat it' kit is a fun way of educating local schoolchildren about where food comes from and to also help teach them about the importance of healthy eating and basic cooking skills"

Accepting the kit on behalf of the school, teacher Hollie Wood said: "We are really grateful to Sainsbury's for this great kit. Free materials like this are invaluable and help us educate children about where food comes from and to teach them basic cooking skills '“ not to mention the importance of healthy eating."

She added: "Clearly all of this helps towards us achieving the Government's 'healthy school status' and increases our chances of being selected for the Government's Eco-School Award. We can't wait to incorporate the kit into the children's lessons and after-school activities."
