“Retained firefighters from Billingshurst Fire Station were mobilised to the scene, and upon arrival found one high voltage power pylon on fire.

“Crews extinguished the fire, and remain in attendance at the scene alongside the utilities provider.”

A spokesman for SSE apologised for the outage.

He said: “We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.

“Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.
