PLANS to cut the fire and rescue service in the Midhurst and Petworth area are due to go under the spotlight at the north Chichester county local committee (CLC) tonight (June 26).

The plans, drawn up by the West Sussex and Rescue Service in a bid to save £1.6m include withdrawing one of the two fire engines at Midhurst, Petworth and Storrington.

A presentation will be given on the proposals
and members of the CLC will be asked to comment on the plans as part of the wider consultation which is being undertaken this summer.

It is due to be chaired by Michael Brown, county councillor for Fernhurst and other members present will be Janet Duncton, Petworth’s county councillor and Gordon McAra, the member for Midhurst.

Other items of the agenda for this evening’s meeting include a report on prevention and wellbeing grants and a report on community initiative funding.

The meeting at Lurgashall village hall starts at 7pm.
