Fire in Midhurst woodland was ‘started deliberately’

Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a Midhurst woodland which had been started deliberately this morning.

The crew used backpacks to extinguish the fire, which had involved wood and vegetation, in the woodland just off Station Road.

A spokesman said: “With the recent spell of dry weather, the risk of fires in the open getting out of control is far greater.

Residents should take extra care when out and about, especially when discarding cigarettes or disposing of BBQs.

“We would also urge people against starting fires deliberately.”
