Fishy fundraiser for Hayley Okines

A sponsored fish was held by members of Bexhill Sea Angling Club on Saturday night to raise money for progeria victim Hayley Okines.

The event began at 7pm and 16 members of the club enjoyed four hours on the beach in perfect conditions of a calm late summer evening.

Club secretary Arthur Freeman had 16 members sign up for the event and commented: "We are doing this because it is a local charity - this is to help with the travel costs because only one parent is paid for when Hayley goes to America for her treatment.

"We are lucky today - this turned out to be one of the best days of the year."

His wife Teresa commented: "The lads down here were approached to do this and they said yes - they will do anything for anyone, they are really good lads."

The idea of the fundraiser came from member Chris Nicholson who has two children at the same primary school as Hayley, and then he asked at the club to see if members would take part in a sponsored fish.

One of those taking part was 12 year old Anthony Laider who is a pupil at Bexhill High School and has been four years at Bexhill Sea Angling Club.

Anthony said: "It is a good cause...we have got a full moon tonight so we will probably be catching soles, pout, bass and maybe codling - you just don't know really."
