THANKS to a generous sum from the Big Lottery Fund, Fittleworth Playgroup is now able to open its doors to children as young as three months old.

On Monday (September 9), for the first time since they were established more than 40 years ago, the playgroup opened its new baby room, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and providing care for babies and toddlers from three to 24 months.

Manager Karen Fearns said: “We identified a real need for affordable childcare. While there are many options within the community for those over the age of two, there are very few affordable options for those
under two.

“Our forward-thinking facility will create jobs, as well as opportunities for women and the wider community.”

The baby room offers a unique, home-from-home approach. Baby room supervisor Linda Ede and her team work closely with parents, supporting existing routines and upholding family values.

Linda said: “We hope to create opportunities for women to return to work, safe in the knowledge that their children will be looked after in a nurturing environment.”

Fittleworth Playgroup is a charity and as such keeps fees low and invests profits back into the playgroup.
