For Scouting and St George

THE centenary of the Scouting movement was celebrated in style in Worthing on Sunday when more than 900 Scouts, Cubs and their leaders took part in a parade along the seafront. The occasion was also a celebration of St George's Day and the town had not seen such a parade since 2001.

Explained Worthing and District Scout Commissioner Judy Marshall say: "It is such a big district that it is difficult to find a venue big enough to take us all. In the intervening years since 2002, groups held individual services at local churches, but the centenary was an ideal opportunity to have another major parade.

" There was an excellent turnout this year with more than 900 from a total of 1,250 turning out to take part, which was an excellent percentage."

Music was also provided by band of TS Implacable of the Nautical Training Corps. The spectacle filled the whole of the route from Beach House Park, along the seafront to the Pavilion.
