A FORMER Midhurst Grammar School pupil has received an award from deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Hayley James, from Midhurst, now works for IBM.

She won the award for National Higher Apprentice of the Year at the government’s National Apprenticeship Awards 2014.

The awards recognised apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.

Hayley, 22, was given the award by Tim Campbell MBE, the first person to win Lord Alan Sugar’s BBC show, The Apprentice.

Hayley said: “I chose to do an apprenticeship because I believe there is no better way for me to achieve the career I want.

“I aspire to become a future CEO of IBM and will be proud to say how I achieved all of this from being an apprentice.

“I hope to use this award to raise the profile of apprenticeships, and show other people what a fantastic opportunity it is.”
