Formula 1 stars to appear at Festival of Speed

Button will be testing his skills on Goodwood’s renowned hillclimb circuit on Saturday, while Hamilton will be appearing on Sunday.

Their team McLaren will be one of eight F1 teams appearing, but current F1 leader Sebastian Vettel is not expected.

In addition to some of the world’s best drivers past and present, there will be a whole host of celebrity guests including adventurer Bear Grylls, DJ and television presenter Dermot O’Leary, model Yasmin Le Bon, Queen drummer Roger Taylor and royal wedding hat designer Philip Treacy as well as festival favourites Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and celebrity chef James Martin.

Iconic British car the E-Type Jaguar will take centre stage right outside Goodwood House in the form of a 28ft sculpture.

Weighing in at 150 tons – the same as 122 E-types – the sculpture has been designed by award-winning sculptor Gerry Judah.

The event will also be celebrating Jaguar’s 60 years in the Le Mans 24-Hour race, while new models will feature in the Supercar Run and the Moving Motor Show and some of the model’s most notable cars will be in action.

Past Grand Prix drivers confirmed include Sir Stirling Moss, Nigel Mansell, John Surtees, Damon Hill, Jochen Mass, and the current voice of F1 commentary Martin Brundle, while Le Mans winners Derek Bell, Richard Attwood, Jan Lammers, Andy Wallace and Marco Werner will also be present.

There will be a celebration of the Indianapolis 500 race, with a full line-up of 33 Indy 500 cars, while new for this year will be the Goodwood Action Sports (GAS) area.

The urban-inspired space will include obstacles, jumps, rails and ramps where 20 famous names from the world of FMX, BMX, MTB trials, motorcycle trials and mini bikes will perform various daring tricks.

Among those attending will be Goodwood favourite Dougie Lampkin and the finale will be a multiple-jump scene in which all the riders aim to be in mid-flight at the same time.
