A 400 year old shop has been brought back to life after specialists moved in and carried out meticulous restoration.
Midhurst Walk in West Street, formerly home to seven outlets, had been empty for nearly a decade. Then it was bought by Karin Dunbar and her business partner Olly Wheeler.
They got Midhurst architect Charlie Boher on the case and now four centuries of ‘bodging’ have been peeled away. Experts believe it started life as a butcher’s shop and has been a florists and undertakers.
“I am very pleased with the work,” said Karin, “It’s a lovely space now and it’s not in danger of falling down any more.”
She has now opened ‘Stuff & Co’ selling a range of vintage, home ware and jewellery. She is also making soap. Meanwhile work continues upstairs on a flat where more ancient timbers, brick and stone work will be exposed.
