The day, organised by Littlehampton Town Council and supported by Spirit FM, will see children of all ages building their own castles.

The chairman of the community resources committee, Dr James Walsh said: “The sandcastle competition is a fantastic event that brings families from across West Sussex to Littlehampton. It is always wonderful to see families working together to produce a variety of imaginative creations.”

There are plenty of prizes to be won, with the action being split into three categories; under-fives, under-11s and over-11s.

This year will see the Royal Institute of British Architects getting involved, offering a prize to the tallest castle in the under-five category.

Participants can enter as a group or individually. Registration is from 11am with the competition launching at noon.

Spirit FM is doing a live broadcast on the day.
