Previous rallies have raised more than 193,000 for cancer charities.

The tour is organised by 12 women and their friends at Bognor Regis Motor Club.

Clerk of the course Ali Green said: 'Although the event is hard work to organise, it is a great fun weekend with a terrific end result.

'Way back in 1998 when the first event took place, little did anyone realise it would still be running today with such enthusiastic support.'

The tour saw 36 cars leave Bognor seafront for an overnight trip to Portland, visiting Regis towns and villages along the way.

It recreated the first Regis Rally run by the motor club in the 1950s before the annual jaunt faded away.

The 2008 tour is heading into Cornwall for the first time. It will see 57 crews taking part. Many have entered as many as nine of the previous tours.

Among those joining in are Stuart and Jenny Ellis from Bognor Regis in their 1962 Austin Healey 3000, Keith and Vera Evans and Pauline Bettany from Eastergate in his 1971 Morris Minor Traveller, and Middleton couple Howard and Rosalind Peters in his lovely AC two-litre saloon from 1952.
