GALLERY: Milland Gardening Club Flower and Produce Show

A toast was raised at the end of a successful Milland Gardening Club Flower and Produce Show on Saturday to past president Vanessa Stopher, who died at the end of last year.

Vanessa had been a stalwart of the club, serving as secretary for many years and more recently as president. The inaugural Vanessa Stopher Trophy for the best individual cookery exhibit was won by Audrey Campbell for her pasta salad. Ian Haussauer, one of several new exhibitors to the show, won best in show for three decorative dahlias. Les Lutman once again did well, winning in six trophies, including the Sweet Pea Society Medal for one variety of sweet peas. Barbara Thornley, committee member, said: “The judge commented how lucky the gardening club was to have gardeners able to grow sweet peas to such a high standard.”Milland Gardening Club welcomes new members. The next meeting will be at Milland Village Hall on Wednesday, October 19, when Alick Jones will give a talk on ‘how to make your garden more wildlife friendly’.
