Gate appeal in memory of local organist and nature lover Joan

DONATIONS are being sought to buy and install a self-closing gate on a public footpath that begins directly opposite Pett parish church.

The gate will replace a stile and is intended to be a permanent memorial to local nature lover Joan Medlock, who died in January.

Joan was also church organist for almost 30 years, and it is hoped to include a commemorative plaque in the cost of around £200.

While the project is being undertaken by Pett Parish Council, it is hoped parishioners, footpath users and Joan’s many friends will help contribute towards it.

Donations can be sent to the parish clerk, Sarah Willoughby, at Wildflowers, Pett Road, Pett TN35 4EY.

Motorists have been damaging verges in Pett

In a bid to dissuade people from parking on grass verges in the village, the parish council has started to plant small trees at either end of verges designated as no-parking zones.

The first trees have already gone in opposite Norris’s and also just beyond the junction of Pett Road and Watermill Lane.
