GCSE results: Figures up across West Sussex

Results, as measured by the five A*-C, including English and maths, have improved from last year’s result of 58 per cent to around 61 per cent this year – a 3 per cent rise.

West Sussex County Council said that, of the county’s 37 secondary schools, well over half improved their results compared to last year.

Although the figures need to be validated later this year, once again the rise is likely to place West Sussex above the national average.

Jeremy Hunt, the county council’s cabinet member for education and skills, said: “This year’s results are a fantastic achievement and are a clear testament to how hard our students have studied throughout the year.

“Being above the national average shows the high quality of schooling in the county, whether they are local authority maintained schools or academies.”

He added: “I would also like to thank and praise all our teaching and non-teaching staff for their unfailing hard work.

“Their commitment and dedication to our young people are what makes these results possible.”

More detailed exams results will be available later in the year once figures have been confirmed and verified.
