Staff from Lavant House were pleased with this year’s GCSE results, especially those in the crucial STEM subjects where Lavant girls achieved an impressive 93 per cent A*-C pass rate.

Lavant also has a new Headmistress, Mrs Nicola Walker, who takes over from Mrs Caroline Horton.

A mathematician herself, Mrs Walker was naturally delighted with this pass rate.

“The Government has called this year for schools to raise standards in STEM subjects and this shows that Lavant has answered that call,” she said.

“The girls can be very proud of their achievements in these, and all their other subjects.

“I am confident that, at Lavant House, we will see further improvements in this, and all, areas.

“We are already an excellent school but there is always room for improvement.

“It is going to be an exciting time to be part of our school.”

STEM subjects are science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Mrs Walker said of the results in STEM subjects: “This is perhaps not too surprising, given the fact that the school has a growing reputation for coding and has been chosen to be a pilot site for the national trial of the innovative ‘3D Classroom’.

“This recent, strong growth of the STEM subjects complements the school’s existing strengths in the Creative and Performing Arts.”
