Girl, 12, among three rescued by man on a jet ski after boat capsizes at Pagham

An heroic bystander on a jet ski rescued two men and 12-year-old girl from the water at Pagham last night (Sunday, June 21).

The Selsey RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched alongside the Coastguard rescue helicopter and a lifeboat from Littlehampton after reports a rigid inflatable boat (Rhib) had capsized and three people were in the water just off Pagham Yacht Club.

However, upon arrival at the scene just after 6.30pm, the emergency response teams found the trio had already been rescued.

A Selsey RNLI spokesperson said: "The two men and a 12-year-old girl had been rescued by a man who witnessed the capsize from his house and launched his jet ski bringing the girl and one man ashore first then returning to get the other man.

"With all persons safe and with the Coastguards, the ILB was released at 6.58pm to return to station arriving back at 7.20pm.

"The lifeboat crew thanked the jet ski owner whose quick response prevented what could have escalated to a more serious incident."
