Government grant to reduce fuel poverty in West Sussex homes

HUNDREDS of thousands of pounds has been given to the county council to reduce heating bills in homes.

The grant from the DECC’s Pioneer Places fund will allow for work on trialling energy improvement schemes in homes, which could lead to lower fuel bills.

“There was very stiff competition for a share of this particular pot of money,” said Lionel Barnard, deputy leader of the county council, who is responsible for communities, environment and enterprise, and added he was delighted the council had received the grant.

The council said it hoped to develop its ambition to eco-refurbish thousands of homes in the county, and reduce fuel poverty and increase energy efficiency.

Details are being finalised for where and when the funds will be used.
