HEALTH WALK: Meet at the War Memorial every Thursday at 10.30am for an hour stroll around the town with other walkers. All welcome.

DAFFODIL COLLECTION DAY: Thank you to everybody who stopped by to say hello on a sunny Friday and chilly Saturday. Your kind donations totalled an amazing £164.41 over a total four hours. The Hailsham Lions were also collecting on the Saturday and no doubt they will be letting me know their total shortly.

PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY: A very different style of evening was in store for the members, with guest speaker Gavin Hoey, who is a freelance photographer, an Olympus ambassador and a trainer of all things photographic, with his new presentation, Lighten Up. The evening started with some basic tutorials on camera settings and progressed to show some live picture taking, with props brought along by Gavin and his wife Sam. Using tea lights, an old-fashioned cigarette lighter and a light bulb with a sparkler lit from behind, Gavin showed us how different lighting and camera settings produced such widely differing results. Processing afterwards in Lightroom and Photoshop software the final images were a joy to see. After tea, the focus was on flash photography and with the help of brave member Colin Monk, who volunteered to be the model, several portrait pictures were taken. Colin rose to the challenge in good part, donning a black t-shirt to be used as a background while having talc in his hands and clapping to produce a puff of powder while Gavin took some quick succession shots. The piece de resistance was Colin dressing up as a knight in shining armour with obligatory sword, much to the amusement of members. A highly entertaining evening made so enjoyable by Gavin’s enthusiasm and bubbly personality. The Photographic Society Annual Audio Visual Show is this evening, Friday, 7.30pm and tomorrow, Saturday, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm in the Civic Community Hall, Vicarage Lane. Tickets are £6 from the Camera Centre, Nodding Cobbler or Society Members.

COMMUNITY GROUPS FORUM: Next meeting Wednesday, 6.30pm in Hailsham Parish Church lounge. This is for all community groups, associations and charities in the area. WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: This year the theme comes from the Philippines and is entitled Am I Being Fair. There will be a service at St Wilfred’s Church, South Road at 10.30am today, Friday. CUCKOO TRAIL CLEAN-UP: On Sunday, Kate of the community cafe Dippy Doodahs is meeting at 9.30am at Station Road car park cuckoo trail entrance. Go along and give her a hand.

COMMUNITITIES COMMITTEE: This is the Town Council’s events and community meeting. It is held in the, Fleur de Lys meeting room, 6pm (open to press and public, check website) on Monday.

BONFIRE SOCIETY: This is on Monday at 8pm in the HMI Western Road. New members welcome.

FLOOD RESILIENCE SCHEME: There is a free information event on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm, Emmanuel Church, Hawkswood Road, Horsebridge organised by Wealden District Council. How to protect your home.

HAILSHAM LIONS: New members always welcome at their monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of every month in the Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Field. Starts 7.30pm. For details 0845 833 9828 (local rate).

HELLINGLY HOSPITAL: On Wednesday at 7.30pm there will be a talk for members and visitors to the Hailsham Historical and Natural History Society by Helen Reeves in the Methodist Church, High Street.

ORGAN CLUB: The very talented James Goff will be at the Charles Hunt Centre on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Non-members welcome.

STARFISH: There is a special screening of this film starring Joanne Froggatt on Wednesday at 7.45pm at the Hailsham Pavilion. There will be an introduction and a Q&A opportunity after the film by its producer, Pippa Cross, including important information about sepsis awareness.

FAMILY EASTER TEA QUIZ: Eastertime starts early in Hailsham with entertainment for the whole family on a Sunday afternoon. For the first time this year, Hailsham FM and Environment Hailsham have joined forces to present a Family Easter Tea Quiz on Sunday April 2 at Summerheath Hall. 3pm to 6pm. The quiz will be geared towards family entertainment, with tea and a delicious cake selection during the interval. There will also be a prize raffle and music from Hailsham FM presenters. A maximum of eight guests per team. Adults £6, children £3. Ticket includes entrance to the quiz and tea and cakes.
