Health risk binsat kid’s play park

Tilling Green Association blame Rother District Council for removing enclosed gull proof bins at the play area and replacing them with open bins.

The issue was raised when Rye Town Council’s public services committee met on Monday.

Resident’s Association chairman Daliea Redman said: “Gulls are distributing rubbish across the playground, attracting vermin and creating a health hazard.

“Children are playing among dirty nappies and muck.”

She explained: “We used to have enclosed bins there. They were a bit wobbly but essentially there was nothing wrong with them.

“Rother took them away and replaced them with open bins.

Committee chairman Cllr Mary Smith said: “They have taken away something that was there an replaced it with something that is inferior.”

Pat Hughes, speaking from the public gallery, said: “Is this not an environmental health issue that demands immediate attention?”

The council will now write to Rother to seek a solution on the problem.

Daliea Redman said: “Rother have now finally replaced dog waste bins on Masons Field.

She added that the Residents association is going from strength to strength and recently unveiled a new logo.

The Valley Park estate, off Udimore Road, is also hoping to establish a resident’s Association which will work closely with the one at Tilling Green.
