HUNDREDS of hens destined for slaughter could be saved thanks to a pop-up shop in Arundel.

The British Hen Welfare Trust is hoping to find loving homes for the commercial hens through the special pop-up adoption day.

People interested in giving a few hens a home are encouraged to call first to go through the simple process.

The charity rehoming day on Sunday calls on hen lovers to step forward this Hallowe’en weekend.

Andy Ball, local co-ordinator for the charity, said: “There’s nothing spooky about our hens, they make wonderful endearing pets and soon settle into family life.

“If you haven’t adopted hens before, it’s incredibly rewarding and the feel-good factor in saving their lives is simply unbeatable - the supply of fresh laid eggs is just an added bonus.”
