The craft and fun day at The Eternal Maker, a fabric and haberdashery store in Terminus Road, Chichester, raised more than £240 for the Giraffe Appeal, to buy incubators for the neonatal intensive care unit.

It also gave the Friends Of Chichester Hospitals the chance to make items to sell at the St Richard’s Christmas Bazaar.

Sales manager Rachael Chalcraft said: “The day was a roaring success, with beautiful sunshine for the outside stalls throughout.

“Our children’s learn to knit session was well attended, with lots of new knitters picking up their needles, and some stitches!

“Giraffe biscuits and cakes were munched and, with morning and afternoon classes, many more sock giraffes came into the world, each raising essential funds for the Giraffe branded incubators for St Richard’s Hospital.”

Harsha Desai, from Friends Of Chichester Hospitals, said there were plenty of ideas for anyone wanting to create something for the Giraffe Appeal.

People could make giraffe headbands, embroidery, knitting and sock giraffes, whatever took their fancy.

“Outside the Friends volunteers had a tombola and name the giraffe, along with ‘add spots on Gerald the giraffe’ and create your own badge or magnets.

“There was so much to see and do that you had to also sit back and enjoy the sun and have one of the yummy giraffe biscuits and cupcakes.”

The Giraffe Appeal aims to raise in excess of £17,000. The next event is a curry and quiz night on September 12 at Westbourne Village Hall. For more details, call 01243 831843.
