Historic photos bought for £12,500

A SINGLE collection containing a staggering 116,000 unique and historic photographs of West Sussex has been bought by the county library service.

Costing 12,500, it has been described as the finest and largest collection ever acquired by the service.

County local studies librarian Martin Hayes said: "It has taken us more than a century to assemble the current county photograph and picture archives.

"This one acquisition means that we have tripled the already extensive collections overnight and they now total more than 170,000 images."
