Icklesham Church of England Primary School: The whole school community filled its Mother Church for the children’s Harvest Festival Service on Friday 26 September. Mrs Paula Robinson, the Headteacher, said “ It was lovely to see so many family and friends joining the School in the village Church for our Harvest service. The children sang beautifully. The poems and prayers read by the children focussed on the theme of ‘water’.We have been thinking how lucky we are to have everything which we need and how important it is to share what we have with others.”

School Macmillan Coffee Morning: After the Service there was a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning in the School run by the staff and the children. There were lots of visitors all receiving a warm welcome and relishing the fantastic selection of cakes provided by the school community.Over £100 hs been raised so far.

Young Gardeners: The School was fully involved in The Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show. I was very impressed by the high standard of the paintings which were on display.The Judges thought the standard of exhibits in the chldren’s classes was very high. Thanks to Sue and Mick of the Robin Hood for generously sponsoring all the children’s classes. The results were - Class 1 Gold - Harrison Williams. Silver -William Bolton. Bronze -Marc Baker, Millie C.,Finley Leonard,Reddin Stokes. Class 2. Gold - Carn Williams. Silver- Sophie Thompson. Bronze -Kyle Brooks. Class 3. Gold-Harry Kilbey.Silver -Ned Eldridge. Bronze -Billy Cooks. Class 4. Gold -Gracie Daniels. Silver -Corbyn Smithers. Bronze - Oliver Shelly-Crosfield, Minnie Collyer. House winners. 1st Orchard 35, 2nd Church 25.5. 3rd Oast 20.5 4th Windmill 21. Orchard win the Horticultural Society Challenge Cup. The Dunn cup for most points - Harrison Williams

Pantomime Auditions: Icklesham Players next pantomime is “The Sleeping Beauty of Icklesham “ with performances 19 -21 February 2015. On Sunday 2 November 2014 there will be auditions starting at 3pm in Icklesham Memorial Hall. Lots of pars including: Beauty, Principal Boy, Dame, Wicked Witch, White Witch, Good Fairy, Baron, Baroness, Prince, Princess, Woodcutter,Woodcutter’s Wife, Woodcutter’s Daughter, 3 Male Suitors, Sprite,Witches’ Son, and many more. The Players also need lots of children especially dancers. If you are unable to get to these auditions but would like to take part call Nicky on 01424 812996 as there will be a second audition.

Autumn Craft Fair: Saturday 11 October 10am until 2.30pm in Icklesham Memorial Hall. Lots of interesting items for sale in preparation for Christmas. There will also be curry tasting.Freshly made curries to try. These are healthily made and can be frozen. Refreshments are available. There is plenty of free parking next to the children’s play park.

Robin Hood Bonfire Society: The Society held its Auction of Promises not on rain soaked August Bank Holiday but a week later on Sunday 31 August. An excellent £3600 was raised and the Society is grateful to everybody who donated or pledged something for this event. At the AGM of Icklesham Trust on 5 December The Bonfire Society will be making the following donations;- Pavilion Fund £1000 and £100 to Icklesham Trust,Icklesham School,Guestwell Scouts/Guides,Pett Level Rescue Boat and Icklesham Youth Club.

The Parish Magazine: The October edition is now out. As always it is excellently produced and is such good value at the cost of 50p.Yet the Editor Howard Marks lives in the Loire Valley in central France and with the help of Hugh and Annabelle Moseley and Stuart Baker on this side of the Channel lots of computer technology is used for each issue. Fantastique! Everything you need to know about this village is there.

Recycling: Monday 6 October Brown bins=garden waste. Thursday 9 October = household refuse

Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Mornings: Alison and Elly Cutting were delighted when last Friday’s Coffee Morning raised £111.20.They thank everyone who supported their fund raising and especially Karen and Dexter for letting them use the shop for the event.

Icklesham Horticultural Society Autumn Show: Entry numbers were higher than in previous years. The Memorial Hall looked splendid with the Dahlias at their best. The judges were impressed by the high quality of the exhibits. Class winners Les Burns Memorial Tray - Stuart Baker. Stuart also won 3 Dahlia classes and both classes for vases of flowers. He was awarded The Galbraith Cup for most points in flowers and The Kath Harman Salver for most points in show. Pete Stunt won 2 trophies - The John Austen Trophy for most points in fruit and vegetables and the Phoebe Merricks Cup for best exhibit in show. Pete won both onion classes and the classes for shallots,leeks.a dahlia bloom and mixed perennials, Wendy Hysted won the shield for best in Cookery and the prize donated by Kate and Syd Myrea for the best seasonal dessert. She was also successful with her sausage rolls, mince pie,butterfly cakes,gingerbread man and homemade sweets. Other class winners included -Tomatoes - Wendy Hall. Ground Vegetable -Sarah Hudson. Dessert Apples - Cathy Wall. Pears - Ann Osborne. Mixed Foliage and Date and Walnut loaf - Judy Foster who also won the Icklesham Horticultural Shield for the person living outside the village gaining most points in all the 2014 shows. A Rose and a pot plant in bloom -Pam Lee. Cactus or succulent - Sarah Hudson. Pot plant foliage and a photograph taken by you -Tina Cranage. Flowers raised from seed - John Dunk. The A.G.M.: The Society’s A.G.M. will be held on Friday 24 October at 7.00pm in the Memorial Hall. Among items on the agenda will be ‘Should the Summer Show be held with the Fete?’ ‘Should the Society continue with the Wealden Brass Band?’ The society values its members views and hopes for a good attendance.
