Incinerator - 'fight not over yet'

Conservatives today expressed disappointment at local government secretary Ruth Kelly's decision not to hold a review of plans to build an incinerator in Newhaven.

Jason Sugarman, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for the Lewes constituency, said: 'As one of the hundreds of people who wrote to the Government calling for a review of the decision to approve the Newhaven incinerator, I am deeply disappointed that they have refused to do this.

'I believe it is now possible for there to be a judicial review of the matter and this is something I would support.

'I hope the Lib Dems, the original architects of the incinerator, will follow my lead and back my call for a judicial review into the Newhaven incinerator. The fight against the incinerator is not over yet.'
