Midhurst firefighters were called to the scene at 6.30am after reports that a pick up truck had been in collision with a tree in North Street, a narrow winding lane linking Rogate to Liss.

They found the man trapped in his vehicle, after it had been in collision with the tree on the bend of the lane close to the A272.

Petersfield Fire Station’s rescue pump from Hampshire and Chichester Fires Station’s heavy rescue tender were also called to the scene to help to recover the injured man.

The emergency teams used specialist hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the man from his vehicle.

He was then taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital at Brighton by a helicopter emergency medical services team in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance.

It is believed the injured man may have been trapped in his vehicle for as long as two hours before being discovered and before the emergency services were called to the scene.
