Detectives in Bognor CID are hoping to question Mr Capelin to find out what caused his injuries. Their inquiries into the incident are still continuing.

Mr Capelin was found seriously injured about 1pm on February 26 outside the Russell Hotel in Kings Parade.

He was taken to St Richard's where it appeared he discharged himself before treatment.

Shortly after, at 2.40pm, police were called to attend him in Swanfield Drive, Chichester, close to the hospital, where he lost consciousness while he was treated by paramedics.

He was taken back to St Richard's and transferred to Southampton where his injuries were described as life-threatening. Surgeons operated on Mr Capelin on the morning of February 27.
