The holiday-let building at Rocklands Private Caravan Park, near Ecclesbourne Glen, has been partially built without planning permission and branded as an ‘ugy carbunckle’ by those who walk in the park.

The construction led to placard waving demonstrators gathering outside Hastings Town Hall last June.

Councillors on Hastings Borough Council’s Planning Committee are being recommended to refuse permission when the application appears on an agenda item at the council’s Planning Committee of Wednesday March 4.

A council spokesperson explained: “The proposal is a new, full planning application to retain a holiday let building that has been partially constructed without planning permission in the south west corner of Rocklands Holiday Park.

“The building is similar to a previous planning consent granted in 2012, but the differences are considered to be sufficiently material to warrant a fresh planning application.

“The main issues are the relationship of this proposal to the previous planning consent and the impact on nature conservation interests, the landscape, the historic environment, the residential amenity, ground condition and drainage and tourism development.

Planning councillors are therefore being recommended to refuse. This will be discussed and decided upon by the planning committee when it meets next week.”
