Isfield & Little Horsted

FISHY RIDDLE: When can you hear a fish sing? When you're at one of Isfield's village pubs, it seems. Well, that's the plan being orchestrated by Andy and Linda Brooks, mine hosts at The Laughing Fish. If all goes well the pub will, unofficially, become The Singing Fish once a month. Andy says: '˜We got this idea from a number of our friends and customers who currently enjoy both going along to informal choirs, (such as inChoir, the Rock Choir, the Paddock Singers etc), and who also enjoy coming to the pub. After a thoroughly enjoyable community Christmas Carol sing-along last December, we thought we'd try something a bit different on what would otherwise be a quiet Sunday night. After all, other pubs run successful interactive folk or ukulele nights even whilst being open to other customers, so why shouldn't it work with singing?' The Sunday night choir sessions, starting on March 19, will be led by professional choir director and singing teacher Ruth Kerr. '˜The Singing Fish is for men and women, young and old, of any voice type who enjoy a good sing in an informal setting,' say the organisers. '˜There will be a wide variety of musical genres, from rock to traditional folk tunes, sea shanties to Christmas Carols and everything in between.' Ruth will be starting musical bars in the bar at 7.30pm and going through to 9.15pm, with a break to refresh vocal chords. The usual session charge will be £5 per person, but just £2.50 for the first introductory evening. More details from Andy on 01825 750349.
