Walkers are calling it ‘freaky February’ after discovering the highly unusual sight of an oak tree in full leaf at completely the wrong time of year.

And what is making the sight even more unusual is that the oak is surrounded by others not even in bud yet.

One theory put forward by expert and vice chairman of Fernhurst Society Iain Brown is: “There are two different species which co-exist in the UK -sessile and pedunculate oaks. Microclimate could be playing a part.”
