Jodie Kidd to signal start of 12 hour lawnmower race
Fashion model, racing car driver and television personality Jodie Kidd will start what organisers say is '˜the world's greatest lawn mower' race on Saturday August 6.
The BMLRA 12-Hour will see Jodie, who lives near Billingshurst, dropping the Union Jack at 8pm to signal the start of some fast and furious racing throughout the night as 44 teams strive for 12-Hour honours.
Lead drivers for each of the teams will run to their mowers, start their engines and set out on a testing night for both man and machine in this hotly contested endurance event.
Jodie’s participation is part of her #ChallengeKiddo fund raising initiative for Help for Heroes and the charity’s drive to beat the stigma around mental health in the military.
Over a challenging year, Jodie is cycling 567 miles, climbing 19,341 feet with wounded, injured and sick members of the armed forces and taking part in some weird and wacky fundraisers with the aim of raising £200,000 for the Rebuilding Lives campaign.
Entry to the event is £6, with children free, and there is no charge for parking.
There will be full trackside catering and race commentary throughout, or you can listen in on Radio Le Mow on 87.7 FM.
The venue is Five Oaks, near Billingshurst in West Sussex RH14 9AE – just off the A29.
Qualifying is from 3.45pm with the race start set for 8pm.
It’s 38 years since Sir Stirling Moss won the inaugural event and with more than 40 teams competing for honours the action will be as fast and furious as ever, guaranteeing thrills, spills and great family viewing.
Last year’s event saw a new distance record of 354 miles established.
The event is being supported by Phoenix Motorcycle Training, with centres across the south of England, and The Winner Group of companies, who offer a national service for the hire of event, plant, equipment, tools and aerial platforms.
All profits from the event are being donated to Ingfield Manor School, in Five Oaks, for children with cerebral palsy.
