That is after the Blake Cottage Trust obtained the keys on Monday after only a year fundraising.

It was during his time in Felpham that Blake wrote the immortal words ‘And did those feet in ancient times’ which today is best known as the hymn Jerusalem.

“This project started as a dream and ended with a miracle,” said Rachel Searle from the Big Blake Project.

“The Howell family have been very patient and generous with us reflecting their keenness to see Blake Cottage opened up to a wider audience.

“I wanted to commit myself to this project because I am thrilled with the knowledge that Blake lived right here and was so inspired in this place that he gave us eternal phrases hope that speak of justice, purpose and togetherness.”

West Sussex County Council endorsed the project with a £10,000 grant, and speaking of his ‘delight’, councillor for Felpham Graham Jones said: “When approached by Rachel I immediately saw the importance of this project and the wider benefits for the community during a period regeneration if the house can be opened to the public.”
