Kirdford rowing hero raises £14,000

KIRDFORD rowing hero Tommy Tippetts has raised £14,000 for charity as a result of his epic journey across the Atlantic.

Tommy, 23, rowed from the Canary Islands to Barbados in a solo trip which began in December last year.

His aim was to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind, and he also set a record for the youngest man to row any ocean solo.

Tommy said the charity was important: “The reason I wanted to support this charity was firstly to raise money but also to raise awareness of mental health, and get people talking about it which doesn’t really happen at the moment, as there always seems to be such a stigma about it.”
