Kirdford vicar warns of ‘heavy losses’ being run up by churches

A vicar has warned parishioners they need to dip into their pockets to stem heavy losses being run up by their two churches.

The Rev Dr Paul Redparth, priest-in-charge at Kirdford with Plaistow, which also includes Ifold, says the churches are running at a loss of £1,124 a month and the situation cannot continue for very long.

Writing in the villages’ Parish News, he says the historic gifts and legacies of the central church are virtually gone as it has been subsidising the running costs of individual parishes for many years.

“The crisis point is now here and individual parishes are being asked to forget about historic subsidies – it’s all down to them now.

“We have very little cash in reserve, perhaps enough for one more year. But if prices and costs increase even more, perhaps less than that.”
