L-plates on for Children in Need!

Lauren Dougan from Bognor donned the L-plates and got behind the wheel today to drive the Chichester to Arundel leg of a 2,500-mile mega trek, all done by learners.

The Big Learner Relay began in Northern Ireland on Monday and will end in Swindon on November 13, having been completed by 135 instructors and their pupils relaying the Pudsey top box on their cars.

Ahead of setting off from Chichester College at around 3pm today, Friday, October 30, mum-of-two Lauren said: “I’m feeling slightly nervous but it’s for a great cause.

“But I’m not looking forward to having to stop on Arundel hill.”

From there another learner will take on the baton and drive to Brighton Football Club’s stadium, and today’s leg will eventually finish in East Grinstead.

Two local driving instructors helped Lauren complete her leg after getting involved for a second year.

Steve Pearce of Coastline Driving School said: “Last year was the first one and together it raised an amazing £65,000 for Children in Need.

“It’s for a really good cause and we chose Lauren because I knew she was a competent driver.”

Helen Adams of Purple Driving added: “Me and Steve are normally the best of enemies as we’re competing driving instructors but we’ve come together again to raise money.

“So far we’ve raised over £150.”
