Leave your bras in Battle to help good causes

WOMEN are being encouraged to leave their bras in Battle to help a trio of good causes.

Several local businesses have joined forces to show a commitment to recycling and to benefit African women, whilst raising money for Breast Cancer Care and the 1066 Cycle Club.

Bra Banks have been placed in Battle Post Office, lingerie specialist Knickknicks in Old Ladies Court and left with Debbie (Zumba at Battle).

Bras in any condition are required.

The unwanted undergarments will be sent to a depot and then shipped to Africa and sold at markets to women who could otherwise not afford them.

By saving the bras from the household bin, women will be alleviating pressure on waste sites and benefiting women who are grateful for such items.

The team receives cash for the recycled bras, which will be shared equally between two good causes.

The project is being led by Sue Burton, from Battle Waste and Recycling Group.

Sue said: “For every ton of bras we collect we are given ash which will be split equally between the charity Against Breast Cancer and the 1066 Cycle Club (projects).

“We are trying to raise funds for the Battle Schools Greenway project which will make our community safer by providing a viable greenway for residents and schoolchildren.”

Any women from Battle and beyond are invited to drop off their unwanted bras at the places mentioned.

The project will be running for the foreseeable future.
