Tony Cocks, 35, of Windward Close, was sentenced at Chichester Crown Court today (August 12) after hospitalising Walter Jones after chasing him down the street.

The court heard on April 4 this year, near midnight, Cocks was in his garden having a cigarette when he spotted a stranger in his garden.

Mr Jones had entered the garden looking for somewhere to urinate after having had too much alcohol to drink.

CCTV footage showed Cocks chasing Mr Jones, who fell over.

Cocks then carried out a sustained attack that left Mr Jones with bleeding on the brain and several other injuries.

He was sentenced to five years and four months in prison, of which he will serve half before being released on licence.

Police carried out door-to-door enquiries and spoke to Cocks, recognising him from CCTV footage.
